This week in class we talked about the positives and negatives of using instructional videos to further learning. Overall, I think that videos can serve as a useful tool to help kids become more engaged in their learning, but it should not be the only way that they are learning. I think that there is a lot of value in having students come to the same space to socialize and work together. However, there are a lot of awesome videos out there that are great learning resources and it is an awesome opportunity to learn from different perspectives.

After reflecting on the positives and negatives of educational videos, we tried to make our own instructional video while adding interactive components to it using the website H5P.org. Unfortunately, this website wasn’t loading properly, so we were unable to explore the tool fully. After looking around at the website, I really enjoyed the advent calendar option that you can add into videos. I think this is a great way to get the kids excited about a particular event. I have always been an avid lover of Christmas, so I think that it would be fun to add in certain questions or facts leading up to Christmas. Then at the end, there could be a fun class event that you do all together.

I understand that some holidays such as Christmas can be a difficult time for some students depending on their home life or cultural background. Therefore, I think that you could use this for any event. I am going into French teaching, so I think that this could be a useful tool for kids to learn about French culture. Each box could have different facts or videos that lead the students to learn more about a certain cultural celebration. Hopefully, this would be a great way to add an exciting routine into a classroom.
